Replaced front panel, now part of screen doesn't respond to touch?

I replaced the "front panel" of my iPad 2 because one of my kids stepped on it and cracked it. The iPad worked fine for many months with the broken screen, I just replaced it for safety more than anything (before one of the kids got a splinter of glass in the fingers!)

Anyway, I bought a front panel replacement kit from ifixit, removed the broken panel in 3 billion pieces, cleaned off the old adhesive and stuck the new front panel on. The new panel already had the home button and adhesive installed.

Fired up the iPad and the screen looked amazing! Brand new! But I quickly noticed something was wrong. At first I thought it was freezing, but then I realized its just a very specific part of the screen that doesn't respond. It's basically the bottom portion of the screen, when the keyboard is up, the "7" and "U" and myabe "J" don't respond to touch. I imagine any touch in this area isn't detected, its just when the keyboard is up I can really notice where exactly it is.

Other than that, the iPad works flawlessly. Is there any reason when that specific portion of the screen would not work? And is there a fix? I've already tried "erasing all content and resetting" but there was no improvement.

Could be be parts. iFixit has great parts. But every once in awhile, the parts come out of the factory broken. I'm sure iFixit would warranty your part, or you could at least ask them if they could.

Is it possible that the ribbon cable attaching the front panel to the logic board got pinched between the glass and aluminum chassis? That is typically the cause of this type of problem.

Often the ribbon cable from the digitizer is not fully inserted into the mating connector. Ensure the dotted line on the ribbon cable is barely visible, and straight across or parallel with the edge of the mating connector.
