Won't stay powered on.

I am helping a friend troubleshoot a Philips HTS3306/F7 blu ray player. When the power button is pressed the unit will have "Philips" scroll across the display screen twice, then shut down. After it shuts down it will not power on again for a few approximately 10-15 minutes. The unit has sat unused for approximately 18 months. I have done some basic troubleshooting; checked for broken wires, bad connections, etc, but don't know where to go from here.

It sounds to me like the circuitry is damp. Not coming on for so long afterwards is the boards way of trying to protect itself from damage.

Have you tried plugging it into another socket somewhere else in the house?

Open it up and clean the board, look for possible component damage, like blown caps or condensation, you should dry the board with a cloth anyway.

Check on board fuse if it has a replaceable one.

It could also be a faulty BD drive, to determine that after you have tried the rest, disconnect the cable from the BD drive to the main board and power on the system, see if it boots fully without it.

Hope this helps.

Sorry it took so long to respond, but it looks like you were spot on. Once I blew everything out and ran some hot air over it it now comes on and stays on like it should.

Thank you for the response.
