Sound cuts out after 5 minutes - then loud white noise

I have had the headset connected to my television for about a year now. All worked fine until recently when it works for 5 minutes and then switches to loud white noise. I've have not changed the tuning or the television. To troubleshoot, I have connected the headphones to my mp3 player, and that is fine. I've also checked the TV output with other headphones and they are fine too.

Any ideas?

I would suspect that the batteries in the headphones are failing. Good news: these are standard AAA rechargeable batteries, and easy to replace. See the guide.

A little more thought: Loud white noise is characteristic of an FM receiver that has lost signal, usually due to the transmitter shutting down. There's an indicator light on the transmitter that shows if it is powered on. I don't know if the transmitter handshakes with the headphones, but this would suggest that the transmitter thinks that the TV isn't 'live' from an audio perspective. Some people have reported that plugging and unplugging the transmitter helps.
