iPhone 5 won't turn on at all

Hi everyone,

So i have a quick question. Yesterday i purchased an iPhone 5 that completely doesn't work at all. I've tried plugging it into the charger (still not turning on), i've tried forcing it into DFU mode (that didn't work either), i've tried plugging into my laptop and that didn't work either. When i got the phone yesterday the screen was completely cracked so i've ordered a new replacement screen ,but I'm worried this isn't the only issue as i was waiting for it to vibrate or something indicating it's just the screen that needs replacing. If the screen replacement doesn't fix it, what does everyone advise I do? Get a new battery or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Step 1, clean charging dock: done.

Step 2: try a new known good charging dock:

2-A: if you still see nothing on the screen (using a known good screen) such as empty/charging battery, then you probably have a defective U2 IC. It could also be a power management IC, or some other issue on the logic board. For example, are you sure it is not liquid damaged? Dropped hard? Etc. Often, repairing such issues is not economical. Steer away from damaged iPhones 5 and older. 5S could be worth the effort IF (that's a big IF) you can source a relatively clean phone.

2-B: you see a battery charging but phone doesn't start, it's time to try on a new known good battery. That battery should discharge normally, and when phone drains to 0%, be able to recharge from zero and the phone should restart. If not, then it's back to U2 IC (Google it).

I changed the battery in my iPhone 5S, and now it won't turn on. I have taken it apart several times to make sure everything is sealed correctly. I also plugged it into the charger for a few hours and nothing. Now what? Could it be the power button?

i have the same problem. what should i do. i replaced my iPhone 5s screen and the battery and now it wont turn on. i checked the connections several times.

If the phone doesn't turn on when plugged into the wall then it probably isn't the battery. There are a couple of things you can try though.

With iPhones I have had to wait up to 15minutes of them being plugged in before they will turn on especially if they have been dead for a long time.

The culprit might be the charging port. Take a pin and clean it out. Sometimes it is just lint from a pocket or dirt that doesn't allow a full connection. If you want to get real crazy, some alcohol on a toothbrush gets it real clean in there.

If cleaning doesn't work then you can try swapping out the charging port cable (speaker assembly) for another one in order to fix the problem or rule the charging port out as the culprit.

If those don't work let me know an we can go from there.

Ok just an update. I've now replaced the screen and I ordered some 99.9% alcohol which arrived this morning. I cleaned out the charging port, but unfortunately still no luck. What do you think I should do next?

Hello Stewart,

You can try going to the store that you bought from it and talk to them about it, since you have bought it yesterday It must be from them maybe, go talk to them and then tell us what happened once you come back.
