Is it possible to upgrade the CPU?

Hello, I've got a MacBook Pro 8.1 (Late 2011), do you have any idea if it's possible to upgrade the CPU?

I disassembled it a few times but never checked at the other side of the motherboard, on the internet I found different informations, some says that it's soldered on the board, and some that it can be swapped (even with some, really expensive, compatible alternatives).

Any idea?

Thank you.

No, you can't replace the CPU chip its soldered to the logic board.

Why do you think you need to do this?

I don't *need* this, I'd just like to have a faster CPU, if it were possible

Ah... Most of the time its just not worth the costs in swapping out logic board just to gain a few Hz of improvement of the better CPU on it. I would recommend you look at adding more RAM if you have only 4 GB in the system. I would also look at upgrading the HD is you have a smaller drive. Other than that housecleaning getting rid of old log & error report files, flushing out the cache history and lastly defraging the HD can make big improvements! Try to leave 1/4 to 1/3 of the drive free. As to upgrading the drive I'm still putting in SSHD hybrid drives in but as the price of SSD's fall I'll likely start recommending that as a direction for adverage user. If you were expecting a top end gaming system here this is not it.

I already have 8Gb RAM and a fusion drive (normal HDD plus an SSD in the DVD reader slot). I really don't have performance issues during normal usage, but sometimes I wish it was faster :D

Newer machines are not upgradable at all, right? Even about RAM?

So far the current MacBook Pro models still have the ability to upgrade the SSD (only one drive now) but the RAM is soldered to the logic board. The new MacBook has everything soldered. In any case the newer systems have much faster RAM & storage I/O's which in your case maybe what you are looking for.
