replaced the logic board on 30 Gb iPod now shows sad face

Cannot get my iPod to boot / come on after replacing the logic board. It now shows the sad iPod icon and will not come on. I have tried the diagnostic screen, reset, etc.

I did notice that the P/N on the replacement board was not the same as the original, however, the iFixit page showed this as the replacement part for both P/N's.

Thanks for any help

dwp64, check the diagnostics mode and test your hard drive. Right now it appears that your hard drive is not responding. You also want to make sure that your iPod gets recognized by iTunes and that it will come up as an iPod that needs to be restored. It is possible that your hard drive is not recognized due to missing firmware. then check the hard drive cable, make sure that it is properly inserted. If it is , consider replacing the hard drive. Thanks for the reply. I would like to make sure that my iPod gets recognized in iTunes, then I could restore it. Question is how to do that ? Cannot get there from here. All that I have tried so far will not work. The iPod did finally show some hard drive specs in diagnostic mode, however, it shows 96 Gb when this is only a 30Gb iPod.
