Don't know if anyone answered this but I figured it out. The book does not tell you or no were on the web that I could find.
Go to the menu, setup and you will see a selection for safe mode.
Turn safe mode off and you are good to go.

Thank you junkfarm for your answer to a problem. I was so aggravated that I could not figure out how to delete pics from GE X2600. You are a lifesaver !!!
