Power Button or something else

My LG G3 will not turn on with the power button alone. It will turn on by holding the power button down and then plugging the charger in. When the LG flash screen shows you release the power button. On top of that the power button will not bring up the power off screen when the device is running. I'd guess a bad power button if the "charger trick" didn't turn it on. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Thanks in advance!

I know some phones will power on with a wall charger even after completely removing the battery. Not all phones will do this though, and I am not sure about the LG's. This could indicate that you have a faulty battery that needs replaced. If the phone's power button was the issue it would likely not power on at all, but may indicate its charging when connected to a charger. I would try replacing the battery or if you have access to another LG G3 you could test your battery in the other G3 phone or use the other phones battery to try and power on yours. If you have a multimeter you could remove the battery and check to see what the batteries voltage reads before purchasing a new battery. A phone will usually not power on if the battery's voltage is anywhere below 3.4v. If you have been using a third party charger to charge the battery it may have been providing the battery with the incorrect charge current causing damage to the battery. I believe that a new battery should fix your issue, and its a good sign the phone can still power up when connected to a charger.

That is very good reasoning. Unfortunately I explained the phones starting after connecting it to a charger badly. If I have the LG G3 plugged into a charger and then press the power button nothing happens at all. If I press and continue to hold in the power button while I plug the phone into the charger it will start up provided I then disconnect the charger as soon as I see the LG splash screen. If I hold the power button on the phone past the the splash screen the phone just goes into charging mode. It is the strangest thing I've ever seen. Once started the phone can not be turned off by the power button, the battery has to be pulled. Not great for the phone. Both volume up and down work fine. Thanks again.

Is the phone under warranty still? If so I would try to get it replaced. Was the phone dropped or damaged or did you apply any software updates right before the problem started?

I swapped the battery with another G3. No difference on my phone or his. Mine still did not start. His worked just as before. I had no recent updates on the phone before the problem started. No drops or liquid and of course the phone is about 45 days out of warranty. I've ordered a replacement switch and cable. They should be here within 1 to 2 weeks. I'll post the results. Thanks again for your ideas.

Got a G3 that won't power up and does not show a charging lite. Used an old trick of putting it in the freezer for 5 minutes. It powers up to the ATT globe, blicks the charging lite blue then green. Then it goes dead. Any thoughts?
