I'm having a similar problem, I can't seem to drag my old documents on the hard drive onto my new mac book. it says I need an administrative password.

An administrative password may be the password of the other laptop. Mac OS X uses file permissions to only allow certain people to access files. Try using Apple's Migration Assistsnt found in Applications > Utilities to transfer data from the old Mac to the new Mac.
