Frozen phone, can't find any solutions

I've looked this up so much, and all I can find is returning it to factory settings. I've read the "Hold the power and the volume up buttons" but the volume buttons don't seem to work. The only button that seems to work is the power button. I've tried waiting for my phone to die but I'm no really patient enough for that. I don't know what else to do. I don't want to resort to getting a new one.
