Volume Rocker and Speaker.

Hi, today i dropped my Evo 4g at work and now the volume rocker doesn't work properly. I opened up the case and found that one of the small contacts between the physical volume button and logic board(on step 12 the button in question is located bottom right of "Several rows of pressure contacts connecting the antennas to the logic board")broke. Is replacing the small contact possible? (please say yes)

Also dust and small metal bits have gotten into the rear speaker. is there any of taking the dust and metal bits out?.

I would say yes, it should be possible.

but it depends on a few things.

did the contact spring simply fell of the board or how does the damage look ?

is there still some solder in the logic board or is there a "brown" spot ?

if the spring fell of, it could simply soldered back on

the speaker problem is not that easy to handle - the best way would be a new speaker, but i didn't found that part on ebay. cleaning it could be possible - but some speakers are extremely fragile, if you touch them - they tear and are "dead". maybe you should wait with the speaker problem until there are parts available and replace it then

The contact actually broke in half, damage wise it doesn't look bad. I wasn't able to find the small part that broke off to try and put back. As for the speaker thanks for the notice. Thanks for the help>

some people use as a short peis of a pen/lighter spring as a replacement for springs like yours.

maybe it would work in this device too

Sorry about the volume button. The very same thing happened to me a few days ago. I jumped up to reach something outside and my EVO flew out of my top #@@$ pocket. It took 2 hard bounces on the sidewalk. I thought i had broke it. It turns out that my volume rocker only works when I click the up side. The down side clicks but nothing happens.

The REAL SAD part about this is that my phone keeps booting into the Service Menu. My EVO thinks that I'm pressing the down button on the volume, so it has to be jammed. I did a Key Press Test from the Service Menu and all the keys return a number except for the VOL DOWN.

I'm going to take mine apart to see if there is any damage like the one you described in yours.

What did you decide to do with your EVO?

I dropped my evo, n the volume, up button broke. I simply took it apart n used. Silicone to reattach da broken. Contact piece, since its a moving part it worked. Out well due to da flexibility. In the silicone. Every. So often I need to redo it. But it works.
