Dropped my HTC One in sea

Hi, I dropped my HTC One into the ocean. The phone was switched off already when it made contact with water. I tried to see if it's working after I kept it for a day by charging it for not more than 5 secs, but didn't see the red light. I haven't turned it on or tried to charge it after that. After 3 days (Am I too late?), I opened up the phone using some tear down tutorial and I was wondering if it is okay to wash the phone, dry it and then try to charge it? Also, there is a copper plating on the back of the motherboard which has black marks. I wonder, if they are due to the corrosion from sea water or because of extensive use for the last couple of years. Please help. It's urgent.

I would say your best bet would be to get some 99% Isopropyl alcohol. If you can't find the 99% get as close as possible.

Take the motherboard and clean it with the alcohol.

I use a soft brush like a tooth brush and scrub the whole motherboard down.

I also will clean anything that can carry a electrical current. Like the usb charge port, daughter boards, etc.

The alcohol will help remove any corrosion and it evaporates very quickly. I would NOT wash it with regular water. Water will still cause corrosion and it may eventually ruin your phone.

Hopefully the black marks on the back of the motherboards copper plating aren't from the phone shorting out.

If there is not a short in the battery or the motherboard then cleaning it with Isopropyl alcohol and letting it dry should do the trick.

If it still doesn't turn on your motherboard or battery probably shorted out.
