Replacing touchpad on Mid-2014 MBP 15"?

Can the touchpad be repaired/replaced by following the instructions for, for example, replacing the logic board, then using the techniques described for the 13" (Reemplazo del trackpad de MacBook Pro 13" con pantalla de retina de mediados de 2014)?

This is a very expensive repair to do on your own here! Sadly Apple used glue to hold the batteries so you'll end up needing to replace them as you well. Yes, you will damage them in the process to get to the trackpad. Here's an older teardown which is basically the same though the whole line: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012 Teardown. Jump to Step 9 and then to Step 21 to see how difficult it will be.

I would strongly recommend you get your system to an Apple Store for them to fix it as it will be a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle!

Why? My daughter spilled soda on her MBP. College students! We've cleaned all of the keys, but the trackpad seems to have issues. Yes, she can use a mouse; but that's not convenient as she roams the campus.

I know that the battery is glued down. I was wondering if the iOpener (iOpener) described in the 13" mid-2014 repair would also work to liberate the 15" battery.

Good Question! I wish Apple hadn't used glue on the battery too. It was a big mistake on their part. The problem is the iOpener can't heat up the glue through the battery as the batteries thermal mass is to great and the iOpener is just to small (thermally) to do the job as well.

Given the fact she spilled soda into the keyboard as well here. It just maybe easier just to replace the complete upper case assembly: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 Upper Case Assembly Replacement. It comes with with a new battery, keyboard and trackpad. Again this is not a cheap repair! Apple directly maybe able to repair your system at a lessor cost.

Thanks, Dan. I guess she'll just have to live with it. (And use a mouse.)

Does anyone know about how much it costs to go to Apple? I chatted with someone and they couldn't give me a quote. But I'm wondering if it's like $200, $500, or $1000? I just want to have enough money when I go to save myself a return trip.

I was quoted approx. $450 (MacMedic) to replace the keyboard complete with battery and touchpad. This upper section of the A1398 (Retina) version , when available, run approx. $275. To replace the touchpad, one needs to remove the battery, thus, the battery will be destroyed in most cases.

I got the Trackpad replaced once after about 1 year (MBP 15" mid 2014).

Complete assemble incl battery replaced. Costs: just over 700 Euro.

And now, after 3 years having the MBP, the Trackpad is broken AGAIN.

After over 15years using Macs. This was the last Mac I bought.
