My question: is it possible to replace the optical drive with a hard disk?

French: Je ne le recommande pas. Le lecteur optique MacBook utilise une interface PATA qui est assez lent.

Une meilleure solution serait de remplacer votre disque dur avec une plus grande (et plus rapide) entraînement hybride SSHD.

English: I don't recommend it. The MacBook Optical drive uses a PATA interface which is quite slow.

A better solution would be to replace your HD with a bigger (and faster) SSHD hybrid drive.

I would recommend this drive: Seagate Laptop SSHD. Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Core Duo Hard Drive Replacement.
