Was I given an already used battery?

Hello.

I have had my iphone5's battery changed in the service center. Using iBackUpBot program, I saved data about stock battery: s/n TL238722940G191440, 1005 cycle count, model 0003-T, etc. After changing the battery I looked at new battery's data: s/n AE249424551GX461440, 234 cycle count, model 0003-A.

I saw that charges counter readings changed from ~50 to 1005 (the moment of battery changing) and it makes me suspect that i was given an already used battery (not a new one) in the service center.

In the service center I was told that we can not rely on the programs data because there is no possibility to count the amount of charges cycles in iPhone.

Does the battery controller save data about the amount of its full charge cycles? If yes, how accurate this info is?

I am not sure about the battery controller and cycle counts, however I can tell you that if you did not get your replacement battery from an Apple Store (and only an Apple Store), then it is not an original battery. And unfortunately, there are on sale tremendous quantities of non-original poor quality batteries that fail soon or never work properly to start with.
