my ipod wont go past the apple screen on power up???

One interesting possibility -- they say that freezing may be due to a low battery. Is the iPod charged?
The other basic thing to try is resetting the device. The instructions from Apple are: "Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears."
