Siri doesn't work after screen replacement?

So after replacing the cracked screen on my iPhone 6, Siri will no longer hear me. She beeps indicating that it is okay to speak then when you talk, it doesn't pick up any audio. Both my speaker phone and normal mic for phone calls is working properly. Any ideas?

Solución Elegida

Just ran into the same issue so pulled the front mic front camera assembly back off and found that the replacement screen front mic adhesive had not been positioned right from the manufacturer. There is a hole in the adhesive that is supposed to be below and slightly to the right of the post so that it lines up with the hole in the mic when assembled. The hole was directly below the post so it blocked the mic hole. I peeled the adhesive off slightly to create a hole to the right, re-assembled the phone, and it worked great.

Siri uses the front microphone.

You have more than likely damaged the front microphone that is attached to the front camera, replacing the front camera flex should solve this issue.

Also check to see if your front camera flex is installed properly.

*Update*

As Kerry has mentioned, some of the adhesive on the ear speaker mesh can be misaligned, this tends to be with the cheaper screens, the microphone hole on the adhesive is in the middle, but this is incorrect, if you look at the mic on the front camera flex, it needs to be slightly to the right, the easiest solution to this is to make the hole slightly bigger using something sharp like tweezers to tear it a little, this can help solve your issue if the microphone itself is fine.

In my case at least... the mic works for everything else, including speakerphone, regular calls, voice memos...The only time it fails is trying to use SIRI, in which case I CAN YELLL into the phone and get a waveform response from the ____________ across the bottom of the screen showing that you are being heard. So in my eyes there is no way that its the microphone... unless it is just a real jerk who hates Siri and likes to do everything else fine ;)

There appeared to be a missing piece on the camera / mic assembly on my new display (the adhesive bit that sticks to the metal casing on the back of the display). As the camera / mic assembly was undamaged on my old display, I replaced the one on the new display with that and everything is working again.

From what I have found, if you scream at Siri into the front camera and it works then Kerry's answer works. I have had this happen a few times. If you get nothing then Ged's answer is the better choice.

I had the same problem and took mine to the Genius Bar. The tech took one look at it and said, "I know why you're here. Siri won't work, right?" I said, "Yes, how did you know?" He said, "Because the microphone for Siri is embedded into the glass display. This isn't an Apple glass screen; it's third party. You can either put a real Apple glass display on it or replace the entire iPhone."

So the takeaway here is don't let anybody replace your screen with anything but Apple glass displays.

Not true. Apple just doesn't want anyone else working on their phones. The camera is in the front camera assembly, not in the glass. Do not listen to Apple.

Will this also effect speak to text features?

- de

Yea, that's complete BS. The front mic is not embedded into the glass display. It is part of the proximity flex itself. Which sits neatly in a plastic bracket connected to the display. Apple has been known to lie to people about this.

Complete bollocks. Mic is part of the front camera flex.
