iPod Classic - Cause and solution to permanent white screen?

My 3 year old 160gb iPod Classic started displaying a white screen after I connected it to my computer recently. I can still see my iPod in iTunes and I've tried to restore it with no results. I've also tried to hard reset it using the lock and home button with no progress. I can still hear the clickwheel sound effect when I play with the touch wheel even while it has a white screen.

Is it right to assume the logic board is fine as I can still detect my iPod through iTunes? Is there any way I can verify what needs to be replaced?
