Power problem with iPhone 5

Ok so my friends iPhone I'm fixing was not working. I established that his battery and port charger were toast so I ordered both brand new! I replaced the old with the new and what do ya know the phone was working and all! I put it back together and used it for a second then out it down cause there was snow outside and someone had to shovel it. I remember the phone being on 12% but I didn't get a chance to put it on the charger but when I came back from shoveling the phone was off and would no longer turn back on. I plugged the charger in and hit the power button but still nothing. The phone had no water damage at all i don't know what else to do please help!!!

It could be that you never fixed the issue to start with, which could be a defective U2 IC (google it, or search for iPhone 5 U2 charging problem on this werbsite).

It could be that you damaged something during the repair,

It could be that a new issue came up (such as a defective U2 IC).

Let's start with the basics: did you try a different, known good charging cable and charger? And after leaving the phone to charge for 20 minutes, did you try rebooting (by pressing and holding power button + home button for ~12 seconds then restarting)?

If yes, and still not result, then let's rewind: why did you choose to replace the battery and charging port to begin with? Why/when/how did the issue start?

And now, when you try to charge the phone, does A/ the phone say it is charging (you see the battery only with the red level)? or B/ not charging (you see the battery + the lightning cable)? Or C/ you see nothing?

Finally, since the repair, is this the first time that you let the phone's battery drain completely?

If you answer all the above, we can help you zero in on the issue and/or better troubleshoot the problem.

Ok we'll I took it to a professional and he told me that the battery and port charger needed to be replaced I very carefully replaced the parts (not my first time doing this either) and put it back together. The cable works fine I have tested it and tried other cables when I plug in the charger I get completely nothing and when I held the lock and home button down for 12 seconds I still got nothing

And yes since the repair I let the phones battery drain

Joe, if you absolutely get nothing on the screen, not even the battery icon when you plug it into a charger, then either the phone is not responding (dead); or the lightning connector is not working, so it is not letting the phone charge and react with the charger/computer; or the iPhone is ON but the screen is not.

FIRST, why did the repair shop establish that the charging port and battery needed changing? What was the issue? It's very important that you answer that with details to determine if you even fixed the issue.

SECOND, and as a quick troubleshoot, re-open the iPhone and clean (using 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab), dry, and re-seat the battery and charging port connectors, and the screen connectors. Test by plugging into a computer, and tell us of the iPhone A/ restarted, B/ showed the battery icon or something, C/was detected by iTunes? If you answer NO to all, examine the connectors and around them for anything missing or damaged.

Honestly I don't know why they said it was the battery and the port charger in the first place.Nothing happened in iTunes nothing happened when I cleaned it. But the phone does work when there's a charged battery in it it just won't charge the battery so it's gotta be the ic U2 chip

In summary, to troubleshoot this issue, here are the main causes:

1/Battery not holding a charge. Battery replaced => not fixed;

2/Charging dock defective. Replaced => not fixed;

3/Pry damage near the battery => none visible?

4/Charging circuit, mostly the U2: phone works when new battery installed but cannot charge the battery once dead AND/or battery drains extremely fast => seems to match => expensive and delicate board level repair.

Please accept the answer if it matches your findings. Thanks.

sounds like a bad charger port. if it docent turn on at all check the power flex to make sure it is still intact. they will not turn on with a broken power flex. I have 5 years in the mobile phone repair business.
