Fingerprint sensor not working

I tore the home button flex cable just a bit and now the Touch ID doesn't work. It's still the original home button and assembly. If I replace just that home button cable that is taped to the screen shield will that solve the problem allowing the Touch ID to work again?

Can a replacement cable fix this problem? I've seen them for sale online and wonder if removing the torn one from the original Home button and attaching a replacement will fix this?

- de

If you do replace with a knock off home button meaning not original. You cannot restore it it will throw in iTunes error code. Also there is a chance that the microphone for Siri and dictation will not work. Also when your phone sleeps when you press the home button sometimes it will do nothing. Will not wake the screen up

- de

Why is it that when I don't have the original home button, it doesn't work and even when I buy new original home button onto my iPhone it still doesn't work?

- de

Because there is only one original home button to your phone on this planet, you can’t buy another home button and call it original. If you lose it you lose Touch ID forever.

- de

Do a DFU restore and your touch ID will work again. Re

installs firmware on device as factory and will start reading again. Works for screen problems and touch id sensor. Does not have to be original.

If you replace the cable it should work. It only doesn't work if you don't have the original home button. more info

Try to disguise the damage and send it back to Apple. Only Apple can repair the Touch ID button on this planet.

Do not replace the button, for iPhone 6, mismatched home button will cause the phone to be entirely inoperable.

If you are sure that just the extension cable is broken, replace it and it will work again.

I know it's the cable for sure I saw it tear where it is taped to the LCD shield. I just ordered some new cables and will install and update then.

- de

Albert did it work?

- de

You can use a mismatched fingerprint reader just fine. They're cheap off of ebay.

But the finger print function will never work again.

They're serial number locked to your IMEI..

- de

However if your jailbroken you can access the P list setting for the fingerprint scanner and edit it. Then you have a full functioning working scanner I know because I've done this I change my silver iPhone 6 Plus to a black all black screen with replacement fingerprint scanner. After modifying P list it's a simple respring

- de

Does anyone have the exact process for editing the files?

I tried replacing the ribbon to cure a faulty home button but it didn't work for me, don't know if it was a faulty replacement cable or not.

I'll be watching with interest.

You can only replace the fingerprint scanner if your jailbroken and have iFile. Must have access to the whole entire root filesystem. From there you can access the Plist file you need to modify. It is link with the serial number but a simple and it can fix this. I know because I've done this on my iPhone 6 Plus. I change the color of my screen and home button to black. Was originally white. Once you modify the file simple respring and you're good to go

What .plist file is the one to be modified and what do you change the data to in order for the scanner to work?

Which .plist file did you edit?

Can i use ibackupbot software instead of jailbreak?. can someone try it? i mean use itunes backup and open backup file with ibackupbot.exe software and find the Plist file. after you edit the Plist file save backup. and then go back to itunes to restore it. i just saw on google someone change restriction password with this kind of method. so i wanna ask if this possible to change the Plist without jailbreak?

Buy the plate that goes on the back of the lcd (can't remember what it;s called) if that's even what you're talking about.

Anyone got those plist settings yet?

Also, I take it that if you have tried to restore and got error 53 already, there is no way to get out of recovery and go on to jailbreak?

so its confirmed if you just broke the long flex cable, replacing that, but using the original home button, you are fine for touchid functionality?

Yes, as long as you use the original home button you can replace the long flex or extension flex cable if it is damage and your finger print sensor will keep working.

If you replace the Metal Backplate, it will fix the issue you are having as long as you are using the same home button. The cable that runs through the plate and connects to your home botton should be included with the assembly. The metal backplate assembly only cost me $8.95. I had made the mistake of cutting that cable as well getting it off the bottom part of the phone so I understand your frustration of a perfect screen replacement. Home button and Touch ID still work on my phone.

So you have to use the same original home button?

- de

That is correct if you still would like to use the finger recognition. If you use a replacement home button, the button will only be able to take you back to the home screen, Touch ID will Not work.

- de

I have the same problem. Where can I get the metal backplate and home button together ?
