Home button/Power button failure?

I Bought a defective Iphone 5. I can see that the case has been replaced. The screen I received with it was broken and it. The seller showed it stuck on the apple sign.

I replaced the screen. The first go, it went straight to setup but I noticed the power button and home button were not responding. Also there were white lines on the screen and the touch did not work in the bottom right corner. I removed it and re-installed assuming that the cable was not correct correct. It then was stuck with the connect to itunes screen which I again bypassed. However the home and power button still did not work. I then took it apart again to ensure that everything was lined up include the mother board and sim. Some screws were missing so I replaced them with original Iphone 5 screws. However the home and power button both still do not work. Both flex cables appear fine to me and the bottons seem to function as normal. Does anyone have an idea as to what I should try next or if there is a part broken that I am missing?

Thank you so much. I came to the same conclusion! This should be the fix I was hoping for. Great.

This is going to be the classic iPhone 5 battery pry damage. Look hard at the board under the two black interconnect cables. You will see a couple of components are missing on the board. These need to be replaced and then power and home button will come back. I don't know if that is the only thing wrong with the phone or not.

I never post links since that is spammy, but if nobody minds, I will break that rule here since this is such a classic problem and I'm pretty sure that I'm still the only one stocking components to repair this professionally.

If you want to give it a DIY shot, make sure you get your components lines up in the right orientation, and you can buy a set of the most commonly knocked off "bigger chips" in this area--U3, Q3, Q7 and DZ101_RF on Alibaba.
