You will need to replace your hard drive because the software on the hard disk expects that the hard drive will fail in the present or near future.

HP provides an article about the steps required when you get the message about your hard disk being bad. It is titled, ''HP Notebook PCs - Hard Drive Failure Errors: Imminent Failure, Smart, BIOHD, HD535, etc''.

You'll need instructions on removing/installing the hard drive if you plan on replacing it. This can be found in the HP Mini 1000 Netbook - Maintenance and Service Guide on page 37.

Please be sure to back up your current hard drive as recommended by the guide if you have important files that you require. Most HP hard disk also contain a recovery partition that allows you to re-install the Operating System (e.g Windows 7)that came with your computer. The size varies, but I recommended having a usb drive that is at least 32GB. After backing up your files, use the recovery manager to create the recovery disk.

Once you've backed up your files and operating system, you'll be able to install your replacement hard drive. Use the USB drive to install the operating system and once it has been loaded on the hard disk, you can restore your files.
