Why doesn't new battery have life as long as the old one?

I have a Samsung Note 2 that I have had for 2 yrs and just bought a new battery hoping that it will last longer than the one in it. I let the new battery charge to full charge and have let it run down until the phone starts beeping to plug it in. So why doesn't it last as long as the one that came with it?

Most likely you have bought a copy battery and not a genuine Samsung battery
