Backlight not working through screen but work on keyoard

Hey I spilled some water on my laptop and was wondering should i get a new screen or logic boad or invertor cable for my macbook pro late 2011? The backlight works through my keyboard and when I use a torch through the apple logo i can see everything. I can also see everything when I use external monitor and everything works fine on my computer except the backlight. Thanks for any help in advance.

After some more research I figured out I need the wled driver on this macbook. Where can I get a replacement part for it? I can solder it myself.

Basically I need to resolder in the qfn. But what qfn do I need?

- de

What's a "qfn"?

After checking the continuity with the multimeter I think its either the driver chip or just the LCD itself. I'm not sure which one it is though

Ali, most often it is the backlight circuitry on the logic board that shortens out. you computer does not have an inverter cable per se and the LCD is most often no affected. If you want to replace a part, I'd go with the logic board, but check your old one first. Clean it appropriately with isopropyl alcohol and check the fuse and other components, for any damage. Check your display cable connector and make sure it is seated properly and check for damage on it as well.

update

Fuse and LED driver location marked. The driver is a APP001A and that of course means it is Apple proprietary so no data sheets available. It might also be impossible to get a replacement. You'll have to find some information about Apples LED driver and see if there is a compatible one from TI for example.

Thanks but I'm willing to give a new wled driver chip a try before I buy a logic board since its soo much cheaper.

I agree with oldturkey. You should first make a visual inspection of the board and carefully check the LVDS connector and socket for any sign of electrical short on the cable end and in the socket. Also verify the continuity on the backlight fuse. If you're lucky you may just have to replace this fuse cause removing and replacing the wled driver chip is not a newbie task. You need a hot air station and the technical knowledge to perform this delicate job.

After doing a visual inspection of the board I'm pretty sure its not the LVDS commector. I'll try to replace the backlight fuse instead and see how it goes thanks guys.

Which fuse do I need? Any link to them would be greatly appreciated.

Alim, we do not know yet if you need the fuse. Lets start with this, do you have a multimeter to test for continuity?

Before replacing the fuse isn't there a way to TEST the fuse with a volt meter before replacing it?
