No Display backlight on the 2010 MBP 15. Options?

Hi!

I got this computer from a friend and he claims the backlight doesn't work. I tested this out to be true by

1) Booting the computer to external display. Works alright

2) Shining a light to the display shows stuff = Data is sent to the display, but backlight doesn't work

I tried cleaning LVDS cable connector on the board and LVDS cable itself but to no avail.

So what could I do? I'm guessing that the LVDS cable could be at fault but also the backlight controller on the board, but I can't for the life of me locate it or find some info on the internet. I could only find where's it's located on the 2009,2011 and 2012 computers but not on the 2010 ones

Here's a picture of the board

By the way. The guy is a heavy smoker, and I found a lot of yellow and orange dust inside the fans. It could also damage the components, maybe

Thanks for any help!

What number is your logic board? Should be starting with 820-xxxx and be on the board itself. You will also have post images of both sides of the board.

Marhowl, I'd start by checking the fuse for continuity. Let us know what you find

I got to get my hands on some multimeter, since I don't have one.

In any case, thanks for showing me the location.

Could it be this component? http://www.ti.com/product/LP8550/datashe...

Apple 2010 820-2850-A

Do you still wan't the pictures? I have found the piece to be called LP8545SQ from Texas instruments btw =)

No images needed unless you need to further identify any components,. The LED driver is indeed a LP8545SQX. Great job...

Alright. So what now? Should I check for continuity on the components and get back to you? Could take a while. I'm a newbie without multimeter =/
