Alternative to Power-On Pads when keyboard is disconnected

So I'm lucky enough. The spill seems so far to have affected just the keyboard.

I cannot boot reliably with the internal keyboard connected. I needed to pull the connector out.

With the keyboard out, I can boot using the power-on pads (by shorting them on the logic board).

For the time being, I'd like to use my macbook with external wireless keyboard and trackpad. This works fine, but I cannot turn the machine on, other than through the power-on pads.

Is there any other way to power a macbook up, with its internal keyboard disconnected?

Possibly, I can skip shutting down altogether, and just go into and out of sleep (since the trackpad will wake the machine up). Still, a proper shutdown before lugging the laptop is nice.

And while I have your attention, and since you have already read all the details, I'm also wondering: Is it possible to run the hardware test/(D)iagnostics through the wireless (bluetooth) keyboard? Pressing "D" during restart does not get me there.

Use energy saver settings to power on the machine at a set time. I agree transporting a running (sleeping) laptop is a bad proposition.

Probably not - but if you connect any USB (doesn't need to be Apple) keyboard that should work.
