How do I disconnect the battery before I work on the phone?

Hello

I have to replace my iPhone back case and the complete front assambly (lcd+Glass) I have read the how to very carefully but i have not found any step where i can dissconect the battery from the logic board first before i start dissconecting any ffc cables from the board. Or doesnt it matter?

My second question is:

The front glass fall apart when i dropped the phone (just the glass and the cables broke off) now how can i lift the fron assably up when i want to open it?

Hope you can help me

that depends - surely - the battery is under the logicboard - but since there are many shot backlight coil problems on the iPhone's/iPod touches - that problems are 100% related to a "poorly coordinated connection workflow" while the logic board is still powered.

so disconnecting the battery is the only way to avoid that - and even the 3g(S) - you only have to loosen 2 screws and use a piece of paper.

surely - some people have a steady hand and are able to use the connectors the way they should be used - but there are many broken connectors (a "good" sign for that problem is the large amount on chines parts on ebay).

i repaired cell phones for years - and i only used powered boards to find problems - not to "produce" them (my boss at nokia would most likely killed me if had destroyed costomer phones with those kind of "repair technique")

but everybody should do like he want - i never did it and i never will

I recommend it, the two screws are right above the contacts

I've never had a problem with having to take the battery out before disconnecting the screen cables- I think Apple designed the 3G and 3GS (and hopefully the iP4) to be easy to repair- though they didn't mean for self repair! :D

As per getting the front half off, since you can't use a suction cup, I'd try a thin razor blade; that's what I always use when I can't get the screen off with the suction cup.
