Adding a SSD instead of SuperDrive

Hi Everyone!

I would like to add a SSD to my MacBook Pro 15 Unibody 3.06 GHz Mid 2009.

I have read that it is better to put the SSD where the current HDD is, and the HDD in a caddy at the place of the Superdrive.

But what about the Sudden Motion? Isn't it better to leave the hdd in its original place (with the SMS I suppose) and put the SDD in a caddy? (lots of forum explain some issues with booting...)

So where is the SMS? inside the hdd?

If it does exist: any idea of a caddy which includes this SMS?

We gave up on doing the dual drive setups as you do loose the sudden motion protection and when using the optical drives port for your HD is slower.

Best solution now is using a SSHD drive (Hybrid HD) Seagate makes a nice one.

It offers the speed of a SSD acting as a deep cache and the storage space of a HD. As its one device it offers the benefit of less power. the full I/O speed of the HD's connection and lastly sudden motion protection.
