My desktop is duplicated on the screen, how do I restore it?

I have a 12" g4 iBook (PowerBook) Not sure if my daughter has got to it and pressed some shortcut buttons, but the desktop screen has been reduced in size (to about 9.5" and pushed to the top left of the screen) the desktop screen is then duplicated beneath it, on the right hand side of the page is just black.

Can anybody help me to restore it?

Cheers

Andrew

Try a PRAM reset. Restart the computer, After the initial chime immediately hold down the four keys: Command (cmd), Option (alt), p, r and release the keys only after your ear 3 times the startup chime (sound).

Use System Preferences

to reset the resolution. Also go to User->Library->Preferences-''delete com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist'' restart.

If this answer is acceptable please return and mark it.

Good Luck,

N.

Thats really bizarre... It could be a GPU problem.

But before we jump the gun, try going into system prefs and play around with the display options.

Also, if you plug in an external display, what happens? Is it clean and no boxes moving around?

Thanks for your help, I have played around with the screen controls and nothing that I can see, I have also plugged into an additional screen and all looks fine on that screen but on the laptop the desktop is still reduced, any more ideas?

Cheers

This means the GPU is running just fine, and we isolated it to the display only. Try doing this

Hey Andrew,

Just letting you know i have the same problem, after i replaced my iBook G4 12" 1.33ghz (A1133) cracked screen. I have tried exchanging the display cable from an 800mhz iBook as well as another 1.33ghz. It is not the prefence files either. Could the display possibly be from another model? perhaps the OS or driver works specifically to the 1.33gz model so it does not function properly with another screen model? The replacment screen did come with a new video cable...

Gabe seems to be onto it, if it isn't the display data cable as he suggests, replace the lcd. However I'm inclined to think he's right.

Right-click resolution on front page, select the monitor you want to remove, drop down "multiple display" click disable display -> press apply -> select "multple display" drop down again and now you will be presented with "remove this display" -> apply.
