Water damaged power button iPhone 5

I was swimming in the river with my iphone 5 in a waterproof case, when i got out of water and looked in a case, it had a little water in it, but the whole iphone was covered in water drops. I turned it off and put it under the sun so water could evaporate. When i turned the phone on, it worked perfectly, except the power button. In the beginning it was living it's own live - turning the screen on and off and making the "slide to power off" appear, then it didn't work at all, now it's somewhere between those states - doesn't work, or act weird. Could I somehow make it work without dissasembling the phone?

Did you ever find a solution? My iPhone got caught in the rain and the power button displayed similar issues.

The phone was turning off and on at will, not shutting off when I held down the power button (instead it would just turn off the screen) and generally behaving badly. I used pure alcohol on a swab and dabbed it to get alcohol down inside the button. (It's best if it is pure not 70%-90% because then you are just adding extra water) Then I gave it few days to dry out thoroughly. It seemed to have done the trick. Hopefully you found a solution, too.

Not that I'm aware of. You'll need to open it up and take a look at it. You could have more water damage that has not manifested yet. You need to open it anyway. Any water inside will not dry any time soon and you may be causing more damage letting it sit inside.

If you don't feel comfortable opening it up, take it to a shop a.s.a.p.
