My Iphone has had a soaking in rainwater, it has dried out and apperes to be functioning normally, however there is a random pattern of water marks in front of the led screen which reduces the contrast and redability of the screen, does anyone have any experience of stripdown to remove these marks?

even though the phone appears to be working normally there could still be corrosion inside and should be cleaned before it gets worse, as for the watermarks i have heard of it eventually evaporating

I agree with opening up and cleaning away corrosion cause it will come back til bite you in the future when it eats componants..
As for the water marks evaporating I wouldn't count on it

Hi
Based on your description, it sounds like water has seeped into the light box of your screen. Cleaning out the light box without leaving behind any traces of dust or isopropyl alcohol marks isn't easy so I suggest replacing the light box and cleaning the back of the LCD as well with isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth. Removing the light box however requires solder work on the connector itself but its not difficult in my opinion.
Here's a youtube video demonstrating a light box replacement on an iPhone 5 screen. Same concept for the 5S. It can save you money if you have the soldering skills to do it.
