You can buy a rubber, also known as "Jelly" case. They don't add too much bulk and they are slightly thicker then the camera so they will protect it. The one I use is the one from sprint witch I recommend out of all the others.

Good foresight, Engadget noted this in their review of the Evo however only time will tell. I suggest as a longevity measure to get a skin that has a lens cover to prevent possible scratching.

I simply got a plastic washer from the hardware store and used some Permatex silicone adhesive to glue it to the Zagg invisibleShield I have on the back of my EVO. Now, the washer is about 1/16th of an inch higher than the lens. Go very light on the glue and wipe any excess off before it dries.

Does this have any impact on the quality of photos though?

Not sure if it scratches easy, but it sure did crack easy. I had the Evo for about 5 days only find out the glass covering the camera lens had cracked. I don't know how it happened, I've been treating this thing like a baby. The crack definitely compromised the photo quality. Unfortunately the glass can't be replaced, the whole phone has to be replaced. I'm currently waiting on a replacement from Sprint.

Wait for the parts supply line to open up, you'll be able to get the right part.

Bige01rf,

I have the same problem you have. I noticed today that my glass lens is cracked also and like you, I have been babying this phone as if it were an egg. I have had the silicon gel sleeve on it since the day I picked it up. It seems you have contacted Sprint about this issue. Is this a known problem and they just offered you a replacement? I'm looking for some ideas on how to approach Sprint to get this fixed.

Same issue here. Got the phone the day after it came out and noticed the cracked plastic about 1 week later. Sprint has told me that I need to exchange it via Radioshack because I am with the 30-day return period, and Radioshack said they can't do anything because it *looks* like physical damage. I have not dropped my phone, put it through any physical stress, and always keep it in its own separate pocket. Hopefully we will get a resolution because this seems like a manufacturing defect.

Same as the above, I cracked mine as well. Been really careful. It appears that the plastic cover for the lense is very thin.

Any ideas as to when the parts line will open up? I cracked my lens a few days after I got the Evo... no idea how it happened as I have also been treating the phone like an egg.

I just got done doing my own repair as well. No lenses available on ebay...

It is actually very easy.

1. Take the back cover off

2. To be safe, take the battery out.

3. Use your fingernail or a small screwdriver to pry off the red broder that is covering the lens

4. Peel off the shattered lense. Be careful not to let any glass hit the lens

5. I just cut a piece of plastic the same size as the original cover and placed it where the original was.

6. Put everything back together.

This is just an ad hoc fix for me until i can find that piece of plastic that is actually for the evo and not the entire back casing that costs $120...

Hope this helps.

same. i posted on the above mentioned htc community site.

yeah, i'm sure there will be demand for the plastic lens.

I join the ranks of i'm still in my 30 days time period, and IN a CASE somehow its popped right down the middle.

mega bummer, each place won't accept it back because of physical damage. so... its looking like i have one more store to visit, then i have to wait a couple months for parts... this should be a 6 buck plastic lens and follow the disassemble instructions, pop a new one in, resemble, and one's good to go.

I've noticed that most of you have cases on your phone, is it possible that these are stress fractures due to the cases?

Note: I've had my Evo since release with no case, it is in perfect condition.

Ya guys know that ridiculous 4x power battery for the Evo? the one with the custom backplate that seriously bevels out the battery contour?

Well, I imagine this sufficient raise should allow the Evo to not rest on the lens - Therefore, not damaging it.

This is the best solutions I've found for preventing my camera lens from getting scratched and I've tried a few. It's called the Lens Protector and it eliminates the problem without the need for a case and is very inexpensive.... Problem solved and I get to "Go Naked" !

I bought it from Amazon.

I bought one of these things off Amazon. It works great! You get two per box and it does exactly what you need it to. Most cases won't protect the lens like this does, and if they do, they are way too bulky (I like a slim phone). Looks like they even put it on sale.

Buy some sand paper and sand that lens cover down (acrylic lens)

1.800 grit

2.1000 grit

3.1500 grit

4. 2000 grit

5. Polish (rubbing compound) using a cotton rag

and you have a CLEAR CAMERA LENS
