If you still have this issue after trying the above, there is another possible cause—crud in the charging socket on the phone!

I tried the above and other "software related" fixes, and they would only work sporadically. I then took a torch and looked into the charging socket.

Inside, there was a significant build up of fluff and the like. So, using a fine scalpel blade, I removed it all. Now, the charging works perfectly every time I plug it in.

Warning: The blade will need to be very fine in order to fit behind the plastic piece in the middle of the connector. If you use anything too thick, you could break the plastic piece.

ayoub, try this

"1. Turn phone OFF

2. Let charge for AT LEAST 10mins even if it doesn't look like it's charging.

3. Press and hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN for AT LEAST 2mins. Anything less will not reset the charge mode.

4. After 2mins release the buttons and the phone should boot as normal." from here

My phone died completely, does this still aply?

- de

I had this problem yesterday. I thought my phone would charge with the AC charger and when I checked it after charging overnight, it had completely died. I didn't think this would work but I set a timer for 2 minutes, held the Up+Down Volume buttons and the Power buttons for the duration. After that I let it charge on the AC charger for a while. It actually charged and I was able to boot it back up. The notification was gone and it went back to normal operation. I believe my charger was bad, because my wife has the same phone and her phone was having problems charging with it also. I bought a new charger and it is working great.

Thx I have a HTC DNA and it worked perfectly

I found raising the phone above my head for three seconds and screaming loud profanities at it before slamming it into the ground at force removed the USB host mode message permanently. Hope this helps!

Sounds great! I'll be trying that as soon as I get my SAMSUNG Note 4. Nothing good about this thing but the speakers.

BTW, I was able to hold down all the buttons for about 20 seconds while still powered on, and resolve this issue, though it sometimes comes back. I think the USB port is shot, since it basically has to live connected to a charger.

- de

that was my next attempt, but I don't have my replacement yet.

lol

I did this and when my phone turned on the icon for safe mode wouldn't go away and all of my apps disappeared please help.

I have been having the same problem. I've been able to do this even when battery has been dead, but it doesn't always work the first time. Also mine keeps reverting to same problem. Very frustrating! I am just about to receive my 5th replacement!

I had this problem - got the same details from Htc who were very supportive. The problem for me was sorted out by buying a new charger - things went back to normal straight away.

Hi, I had the same problem. It got to a point that my phone would not charge at all whether switched on or off. I got my battery changed about a month ago and it works like a charm now. The battery lasts for 2 days now with basic usage (phone calls, a little whatsapp).

I tried to do this procedure, but my HTC Desire 500 was restarting during this process.

I think there is wrong USB connector (in my case), because when I changed USB charger (SAMSUNG), charging worked. This SAMSUNG USB connector went to my phone much harder, then original one. So I think conntacts in my phone are wrong. When I tried to charged with my car charger it didnt work too...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Light-Microphone...

Once when I charged battery, battery was in gray color with exclamation (instead green) and LED was blinking not shining.

I have already changed this item (7months ago) because of microphone.

hello everyone

I have also this problem regarding not charging via USB it shows as 'NOT CHARGING WHILE PHONE IN USB HOST MODE'

this is caused by USB short circuit so don't use local chargers for HTC phone use only original charger.

to solve the USB host problem

you need to jumper the USB port contacts

it can done by nearer phone service ceters.

After jumper the USB port contacts

you will be able to charge HTC phone as normal.

My phone seems to only charge when it's turned off. In addition to this, it still says that phone is unable to charge because it's in "USB Host Mode". Please help.

So my phone says the USB charger thing, wouldn't let me charge my phone, then it died. I plugged it in, cleaned the USB charger port, tried other chargers, yet when I plug it in, it says it is charging (won't boot on though, assuming not enough power) says 1% is charging, goes back to 0% after a bit.. Not sure what is going on??

If you have tried all the usual thing like cleaning the charger port, holding the 3 buttons together, booting in SAFE mode etc, you may want to try this out. Connect the HTC One to a 'multiple USB connector' (google it if you don't know what it is) and then connect that to a notebook. That works for me. By indirectly connecting it to the notebook, it seems to be able to kicks it out of USB mode.

Hi Folks,

I am NOT sure if my answer will be of any help. But, if it does, I am sure you it will have your day made wonderful.

I can sense how irritating it is to read USB notification that states “unable to charge while in the host mode”.

The REAL problem is :

The USB charger that you are using does not support FAST CHARGING (anymore). Means, your charger is either physically damaged or not supported by the hardware that’s using specific version Android.

What causes the issue ? :

When (factory or custom) Android was first installed on your device by device manufacturer & if the fast charging was supported by your Android hardware, the option that says “enable fast charging” was checked. Set to “Yes”. This means, the device will be charged efficiently only when Fast Charging USB Cable is connected to it. Otherwise, it (USB) will only connect to form a connection for Data transfer.

Possible Solution(s) :

There are two possible solutions to this problem, & Solution 1 is highly recommended.

Solution 1 (Recommended) : Check your Fast Charging Cable is causing the same issue with other fast charging enabled devices. All high ended smartphones are usually fast charging enabled. By the way, if it’s causing same issue, go to local shops (with your device) ask for fast charging USB cable, test it & buy it if it’s able to charge your phone.

Solution 2 : Restart your Phone in recovery mode, using Power + Volume Up buttons or Power + Home + Volume Up buttons and uncheck “enable fast charging” from the list of options. It should allow your Non-Fast USB cable to still charge the phone (affects battery)

Note : Please avoid solution 2, and try it on your own risk.

If it helps, please free to comment.
