Battery Door Latch and Door Spring Stuck

The black plastic latch which is spring loaded in the battery door and the main spring at the hinge of the battery door seem to be broken or gummed up (respectively) so neither activate properly. Is there a method to access the latch spring and perhaps dry lubricate the main door spring to correct these perhaps related problems? I see tiny phillips head screws on inside and outside at the latch end of the door and I am tempted to see what's inside but thought I would see if anyone has information on this? I would rather not replace the door and springs if I can avoid it. Thank you!
