Frozen at the Dell logo

I can turn on my computer, but it doesn't get past the Dell logo. There is a blue bar under that goes about 1/3 of the way across, like it's still working but it will stay like that all day. I have done many searches on this and tried many suggestions: I have tried pressing F2, F8 and F12 once every 1 second for....over a minute, trying each button for each turn on. I have taken off the battery and pressed the on button to discharge any extra power. I have plugged it into many outlets. I have left the battery off all night. I have pressed CNTR ALT DEL and many other combos. I have pressed the FN button as I press the on button. I have nothing connected to the computer, no printer (it was wireless anyways) no SD cards or memory sticks or CD/DVDs in the drive. I don't know what else to try. This laptop seems too young to die just yet. HELP!

Gayle, I just finished working on a Dell with very similar issues. The one I worked on had a bad hard drive and thus hung-up during boot. Set your BIOS to boot from the optical disk or USB, and try to start your computer with a Live Linux CD or from a USB drive. I prefer puppy linux due to its size. If your computer starts up, check to see if you can access the hard drive.
