Can I change the Solid State Drive myself?

Hi guys n gals

I dropped water on my mac three days ago. I turned it off as soon as possible. Put it in rice for 24 hrs and prayed to the god it would turn on. I luckly had a keyboard protector on it but the sides got wet. I was told by the apple genius staff that the water had seeped to half of my system.

It now turns on but can't find the solid state drive. Is there anyway I can repair it myself?

The apple guy said it would cost 1900 to repair since my logic board must be busted. But I don't know if I should believe him.

Many thanks!

If your logic board has damage, and you have the skills, you may replace it. Doing so is a very advanced DIY repair. It involves completely dismantling then reassembling your machine. Repairing logic boards is an even more advanced skill. It requires special tools, and lots of practice.

Rice dry's a wet system - it can not repair corrosion damage - you can replace the SSD, but if that's not what is wrong you'll have wasted anywhere from ~$300 to 500.

You can open the machine and inspect it for corrosion damage, burned and swollen components. Follow the tag at right for a preview of what you are in for in repairing water damage.

Start with obtaining the correct tools. Study (not just read) the guide and comments for your machine before you begin. You do not want to do more damage ripping connectors off the machine because you pulled the wrong direction or did not unlock a ribbon cable connectors.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

You could try to replace or fix your logic board but unless you have a ton of experience with stuff like this you will completely wreck a nice laptop and replacing the ssd isn't that hard but still takes a little skill and tools.
