iMac kernel panics normal boot, safemode or install Disk
Hi guys,
So I have a customers imac that I believe could be a video card issue but would like some more input from you guys :).
So it won't boot from the hdd in normal or safemode. But did in Single user. I did a disk repair and rebooted it didn't help. So I decided to do a Apple hardware test and nope nothing came up.
So I decided well I'll try boot into a lion USB install drive and it just hangs or kernel panics.
Luckily my college has a imac that is same year and model so I tried his install disks and still kernel panic. I have tested ram also tried know. Working ram, have tried another CPU, removed wifi, bT and even the ODD but still it KPs. So there are 2 things it could be logic or GPU? The diagnostic lights are all green on the logic board. Tomorrow I was thinking of reflowing the GPU just to see if it helps.
Now the customer is buying a new mac so in removed the hdd and have a blank drive in so I am unable to install oSX and have no idea if the installer saves crash logs?
Thanks in advance
Ben

Sometimes, especially in overheat/stress related failure, you have to run AHT 2 or 3x in succession to stress the machine enough to get it to toss an error.

Thanks machead3 I will do it all day tomorrow and stress it. Does AHT test the GPU?

Ok an update have tested 2 more times and it still passes so holding down option to boot from a drive I saw the hdd I added had windows on and decided to dry boot from it and it has loaded with no GPU issues. So now I'm at a dead end :/
