power button funky after iPad2 screen repair

When removing the cracked screen, we accidentally severed a small copper strip just below the camera. We reattached it and can't figure out what that copper strip is for, or whether we damaged something important. It's on top of a small floating plastic insert and doesn't have a wire. Everything on the iPad2 works great after screen replacement, except the power button. When you press it, instead of giving you the "slide to power off" command, the screen simply goes black. It's not really off however; when you press it again, the screen lights right up. Are these two things connected -- the ripped copper strip and the power button? Could not find any diagram or info about this piece, thanks for the help.

In this image: http://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi... is the copper strip you severed in the bottom right immediately to the right of the circled screw holding the lcd in place? Because that's the volume/lock/power ribbon and ifixit has a guide for its replacement if that's what you're talking about.

Edit: You're welcome.

This could be a better pic, http://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi... I think you need to replace your power flex cable,

That sounds like normal power button function to me. Press to lock/unlock. Hold to prompt iPad to show power off slider.

The power flex, if cut, would not allow you to use the power button at all, so I don't think that is what you're describing. If you haven't yet sealed the ipad, a picture would help us ID the copper strip you're referring to.

Thanks everyone. I gave up and just replaced the ribbon cable and it works. It's odd because the old cable wasn't ripped or visibly damaged in any way. Anyway, happy ending.
