GE washer dryer combo washer door won't unlock at end of cycle

renters doing laundry and door won't open or unlock. She tried to put it to drain, thinking maybe it had not done that and now nothing works. All the lights are flashing especially "door locked". We have checked drain line and does not appear to be plugged. We did notice one of the water lines were turned off, don't know if it was cold or hot. But when we turned it on did not make any difference. We did unplug machine for 10 mins but that did not make a difference. It is a GE washer/dryer combo, model GUAP240EMIWW, series G2005439C. We have no manual for it as it came with the house when we bought it. Thanks Ava

Door or Lid Latch Assembly

If the washer lid or door won't lock the lock and switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lock and switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer lid or door won't lock the lock and switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lock and switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Main Control Board

If the washer door won't unlock the problem might be the main control board. This is not common. Normally the problem is with the lock mechanism.

We phoned a repair shop and they were happy to tell us it sounded like the door locking mechanism. They were also happy to tell us how to remove front panel, sliding a putty knife behind the two top corners of the front panel to release clips. They told us what part we would need ($40), which they had in stock. They said this was the most common reason for this problem. After we replaced part, machine works like new. Thanks for your responses.

You can’t pause when in the spin cycle and have the door open to washer for 6 minute’s or more. If it completes the spin cycle on its own you can open as soon as the drum stops completely
