Thanks for your input- that worked well enough for me to make it reasonably presentable, so I can give it to someone else. I got tired of picking up down and feathers all over the place. Bound to keep happening, when anything made of down and fabric gets to a certain age!

Is the leaking feathers suppose to happen during the first few months of owning?

While this down sweater jacket started out well, it is very poor quality and I'm having the same issue of major leaking features along several seams and has lost bulk of its insulation in past few months.

I love my down sweater but the feathers steadily leak along several seams. It has lost bulk. Today picking it up to put it on it feels lighter & not as warm. Can this be repaired please?

- de

I purchased a down jacket and within the few months the seams along the inside of the arms on both sides started to leak. I'm so sick of picking up feathers off of everything and REI won't take it back bc I waited over a year to try to return (I actually only wore it a few times..bc I purchased the end of winter). Anyway, ridiculous to spend over $300 for something so poorly made. Was hoping I could buy a glue or something?

Solución Elegida

For a quick patch on the fly, apply some Tenacious Tape. Never pull the feathers out—always push the feathers back in. Pulling the feathers out will pull more feathers out. If you are looking for a long-term solution, you will most likely need a baffle repair. While a baffle repair is challenging, it can bring new life to your jacket.

If you see a feather poking through never pull it out, but pushing it in wount work sometimes either. What i do is try to grab the feathers from the other side of the jacket and pull them back inside. From the other side of the jacket pinch where the feather is popping through, then on the side of the hole grab some fabric next to the protruding feather and pull away from the pinch your pinching hand should grab the feather and pull it back inside while you pull fabric back out. Then you can stretch the fabric near the hole to get it to close again.

I used Stormsure TUFF Tape on a ripped waterproof jacket. It is clear, self adhesive, and a little bit stretchy too, which is great for the ripped elbow. Each time I bend my arm it puts extra strain on other tape (which I tried unsuccessfully earlier) but TUFF tape has that extra bit of stretch. It has been through the washing machine 3 or 4 times and is still in great shape keeping out the rain. I ordered it online and it came in the mail real quickly.

I bought from Stormsure TUFF Tape

For very small holes that are leaking feathers I use clear nail polish to cover the hole. Works great.

What about a dab of crazy glue?

Yep I "carefully" burned the feather sticking out and then placed a small drop of super glue on the small spot. Try and drop the glue on versus touching the jacket because pulling the tip back after touching can pull another feather out. Don't try and reburn the feather with Super glue on it, really flammable, switch to knife to trim.

Hi @ apagtama,

If it hasn’t been damaged by you e.g ripped, torn etc and you think that it may be a manufacturing defect, contact Patagonia in your location, regarding their Ironclad guarantee
