Replaced battery and now touch screen is non-responsive, why?

I plugged my iPod into the wall and it turns on just fine but when I take it off the power shorts out. I replaced the battery and now the iPod turns on but it doesn't respond when I go to unlock it. Did I forget to connect something inside the iPod?

to answer your last question - yes - i think so.

the connector for the touchscreen is n the top left, since it is so small - there is no real "feeling" about plugged or unplugged

open it again and check the connection (see step 8) - thats the connector

I had the same issue. I know the connector was nicely seated, because I lined it up carefully and it snapped easily into the socket. However I had torn the front panel ribbon cable on disassembly and didn't realize it. So, now I'm ordering a new front panel assembly. Luckily the entire fix is still close to what a factory repair would cost and I have gained the experience from my disassembly mistake.
