knocked off a small resistor now wont read sim card

Hello, I have a severly wwaterdamaged iphone 4s. Never sseen water damage so bad in all of my iphone repairs. Oddly the entire phone is still fully functional aside from a bad battery. And a spot on the lcd. Well I was about to start on removing the logic board after battery removal, (when I realized how bad and rusted everything was) I decided I shouldnt mess with it until I was able to take my time. While removing the charging port flex cable, my spudger hit a small black square above the sim tray (just below the 7 gold dots) and knocked it off. Didnt appear to be soldered on. I tried to place the resistor back in its place but no luck. btw there are 6 tips where the resistor fell off male and 6 female on the resistor. I left it off and now the device will not read a sim. I can put one in and remove it and it says searching. doesnt say (no sim) or anything. I have the piece still what do I do? Help!!

justin f, going by your "description" It sounds like you are missing reference designator U18_RF. The missing piece pointed out by the OP is part of the BASEBAND circuitry. It is a 74AUP1G08 Low-power 2-input AND gate 74AUP1G08 (not a resistor or capacitors or anything else ;-). It is available at places like Mouser.com. Part number 771-AUP1G08GF132 Hope this helps, good luck.

I still have the part. Its very little but I have it. Btw thats exactly the piece that fell off. How do I fix it? Or reattach it?

Thank you for accepting my answer. That part is an SMD component and will require soldering. Just due to the size of this, you will have to have the right tools and experience to do that. If you do not, I would take all that to somebody who can fix that. TV/radio repair people are really good with that.

Oldturkey, I hope you can read this, I have the same problem and lost the part, the phone doesn't do recovery in DFU mode and now is stuck there. Could this U18_RF not being there be the problem for hanging the restore? if it is i'll buy the part and send it to a friend that does smd soldering, thanks in advance

Yes it is possible that the missing component is the reason for the fault on your phone. After all it is part of the Baseband circuitry
