How can I extract files from the harddrive from a broken laptop?

I have a toshiba satellite L755 -13k. The laptop has broken (Has an intrinsic power failure even when the charger is attached 10 - 15 seconds after turning on). It's not a heat problem. I would like to take some files off it (work documents) most are backed up but some of the newer documents were not. Is there a way to access these files? (Also is it possible to repair the laptop myself?)

Your best bet here is to take the HD out and connect it to a different computer with the Universal Drive Adapter which works with any computer that has a USB port.

Don't let the Mac aspect confuse you it will work Gasp! on a Windows system too! ;-}
