2nd Hard Drive not recognized

I just installed a 2nd Hard Drive and I booted my Macbook Pro. The laptop does not see the second hard drive in Disk Utility. The Hard Drive I am using is This and the Caddy I am using is This.

What would you guys do? Also if I want the new hard drive to be the main hard drive than does it matter what position it is in or can I just do it through settings?

First you should put the SATA I jumper across pins 5-6 to make sure you're not having a SATA I/O speed problem WD - SATA II hard drives & compatibility with SATA I controllers.

If that fails - Do you have access to an external HD case to slide the drive into so you can test it? If not you could also try using the Universal Drive Adapter from IFIXIT (or other source). If it works then you know the cable or the caddy is likely bad. To verify the cable is OK put the optical drive back in and see if you can load up a cd or something. If it works then it's the caddy.

I would also make sure the EFI firmware is upto date EFI & SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs.

If this caddy case is not working then why don't you use a USB caddy case which is available online for few buck.

If you want to stick with existing one then make sure that the device isn't showing as an unknown device that might need some drivers to be installed.

david chase, you are so way off. Please start researching your answers. 99% of your answers are pure nonsense.

David - Is your answer the same as what was already posted? If it is then you should up the vote and if you want add a comment agreeing. If you see something missing then you should add it in the comments. OR if you thing the answer is way off then and only then put yours in. Again, I do encourage to be active here but not adding real content doesn't help, it only distracts.
