Storage Device Upgrade Options

Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade the storage on this 2013 Macbook Air to be like say a 512GB SSD drive? I believe I had found a guide on how to remove the SSD drive. However, could you please also post the various SSDs that we can buy to upgrade this device?

Solución Elegida

At this time NO - apparently Apple has once again come up with a proprietary drive/storage system. There are no 3rd party solutions.

The MD711LL/A configuration has flash storage. Neither configuration has a hard drive. The higher-end MD712LL/A configuration also can be equipped with 512 GB of storage at the time of purchase .

*Apple does not intend for one to upgrade the storage after purchase, but it is theoretically possible. As first reported by AnandTech, this model uses a PCIe-based SSD rather than a SATA-connected one. Specifically, it uses a custom Apple design with a "PCIe 2.0 x2 interface, capable of a theoretical maximum of 1 GB/s in each direction."

So you'll have to be patient... OWC generally finds ways to upgrade these machines, but at this time they have not found an alternative.
