I can also confirm that this is a common issue and will be covered under your apple warranty.

I have had two iPhone 5's replaced by apple for this very reason, they must have used a weak part as a lot of people are having the same issue.

Go to the following page and start your apple service requesthttp://www.apple.com/support/iphone/cont...

The following is where you need to click.

"Apple Support" then "Get Started"

"Service requests or troubleshooting" then "Buttons not working" then select "Sleep/Wake Button"

Within 2 days a package is sent and once you have sent it off a new iPhone will be on its way back to you within 5 days, thats right a new iPhone 5 for a button issue. Must be costing them a lot of money.

Anyway let me know how you get on.

Cheers

I do not live in the USA.

I can not send the device to Apple Store.

If I use spray cleaner contacts that can help?

I don't live in the USA either, Apple will give you an option of how they can get it replaced. They must do in order to fulfil their legal requirements for the warranty.

I would never touch anything under warranty, but if you really want to then, it not a question of cleaning the button, the actual push switch will be faulty and will need to be replaced. This is the guide you will need to complete in order to replace the power button, Reemplaza el cable de botón de encendido y control de audio

I've seen this on several iPhone 5's so far. Usually the button still "clicks" fine, but just doesnt function correctly. If its still under warranty, you can take it to an Apple store and they will replace. Its a part issue. If its not under warranty for some reason (they come with 1 year)....Then you need to replace the power/vol/mute flex cable. This is about a $8 part online just about anywhere. Its rather difficult to replace.... it takes time and patience to install correctly. But it will resolve the issue as well.

Hope this helps!
