Gabriel, the difference is the physical size of the hard drive and the battery, which require deeper cases.

Which would you prefer the thick or the thin cover?
Depends on the size of the iPod I have. One can replace the thinner one with the thinker panel, but it will require a few different flex cables for the hold button as well as the audio jack. The thinner panel will not fit the thicker iPod due to size of the drive.
