Display hinges / LCD panels interchangeability on PB 12inch?

Hello. I have two 12-inch PBs, with almost identical specs. One is fully operational (with bad LCD), and another is faulty (but LCD is real good).

Today I took them apart to swap LCD panels and found they have different LCD panels. And, which is more important - display hinges marked differently.

Donor PB: Pristine Samsung panel, hinges marked SAM-L and SAM-R.

Recipient PB: LG/Philips panel, hinges marked LG-L and LG-R.

Visually hinges are identical (except the marking). I read Apple's service manual and haven't found any notion of hinges' actual differences. So i wonder:

is it OK to affix Samsung LCD to LG-hinges? Will it work? Any hidden dangers?

If you have expirience in fixing PowerBooks, I will really appreciate your advice and guidance.

Two questions come to mind. If the recipient PB is a DVI model what is the donor PB? Also since you appear to have both displays removed how do the cables match up in terms of length and connectors? If both units were DVI I would say go for it but more information is required before I can say that. Ralph

1. Yes, they're both DVI 1.5Ghz 12'' PowerBooks G4.

2. Cables' connectors and lenght match perfectly.

In that case the donor LCD should work. Ralph

I would use the Samsung hinges. Ralph

Yeah, it worked. Everything is ok (though i have samsung panel affixed to lg hinges).

Gotta publish my super-duper guide to taking apart display assembly without taking apart the whole PB.

Congratulations -- well done. I will be watching for your display teardown guide. Ralph
