I was given a ipod touch 4th generation to see if i can fix. The ipod touch does not power on and i have already opened the ipod touch. Is their any way to use a voltage meter to test if it is the battery or not? Ipod touch does not have water damage of any kind. Does not recognize by itunes.

lan , the only thing you can test with a voltmeter is if your battery has any voltage. the left and right pin are the + and - contacts. You need to at least test amperage under load to see if it works, meaning that it holds a charge. Since you do not know the history of the iPod etc. I would suggest to replace it with a known good one. This will provide you with a know good component, should further trouble shooting become necessary.

thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I don't have any ipod touch to switch out parts. Plan to switch out the battery when ifixit get it back in stock or get the battery from another site. soldiering is a pain especially when it is that small on the ipod touch.
The soldering is really not that bad, just practice plenty before you do it and you might want to check this guide out Cómo soldar y desoldar conexiones The battery is available at multiple other places as well :-)
Any suggestion or site that have good quality iPod touch battery? I know plenty of sites for iPhone parts but not iPod touches. I don't use ebay since i can't really be 100% sure of the quality even with the feedback.

not in stock or i would get it. They have ipod touch 3rd gen in stock but the not 4th gen in stock for a long time now.
