The internet consensus seems to be that the icon you're seeing comes up when the phone cannot detect the battery. In one case a guy with the same problem tried all different chargers and cables but nothing helped until he replaced the battery, which fixed the problem for him.

I'd say you should follow that guy's lead and try new or different chargers and cables, then clean the charging port. If none of that helps (and I suspect it's not going to), then the next step would be to go ahead and replace the battery.
There weren't any iFixit-style repair guides available, but I did run across a YouTube video that shows how to replace the battery in your phone if you want to do it yourself.

An internet search should bring up several sources for a replacement battery; the big three - Amazon, eBay and AliExpress - are all likely to have them.
